Utility Billing Implementing System Improvements
Procedure changes will ensure consistent billing periods and timely delivery of statements.
Banning, CA – In an effort to improve customer service, the City of Banning is overhauling its utility billing procedures and meter reading process to create more consistency and accuracy in utility bills. These changes are set to begin during the March billing cycle.
A key process change is synchronizing the meter reading and billing schedule to better coincide with one another and help reduce the number of potential days that customers can be billed. Staffing coverage has also been increased throughout the week to help address other customer issues as they arise.
“These initial changes are an important first step in improving our utility billing,” said City Manager Michael Rock. “Going forward, we will continue to review our procedures and make additional changes to improve efficiencies that ultimately benefit our customers.”
As part of the improvement process, customers will see a one-time payment period for the February billing cycle that may include more days than normal. In order to ensure that customers are not placed into higher tiers during this one-month period, a sliding scale has been implemented that will prorate the tiers and allow more usage in the lower tiers. Following the February billing cycle, billing periods will average 31 days.
Customers with any questions regarding their utility bill are encouraged to call the City’s customer service line at (951) 922-3185. Additional programs and resources are available online at www.ci.banning.ca.us/137/Utility-Billing.
